How the training works

How does the training work?
The majority of the course material and lessons are pre-recorded and kept in a state of the art, easy to use platform. Students are required to attend 30 hours of live calls. Students are offered one-to-one as needed support through email, WhatsApp, phone or Zoom.

Is it really possible to learn to teach yoga online?
Yes, definitely. Skeptical? Soma Yoga Institute was too. However, the Soma Yoga Institute teaching team has been leading teacher trainings for over a decade. The curriculum is well-developed, time tested, and established. They have taken their live program online as the content is of incredibly high value and will bring great benefit to those who wish to deepen their own practice, and/or teach others as well as those who already teach who wish to refine and enhance their offerings to better serve their students.

The institute’s anatomy-informed adaptive approach is not easily found in other programs. Their teaching skill section is designed that if you practice, and practice, and practice some more, it is certain that you will be ready, confident, and equally skilled as a new teacher as those who take the in-person trainings.

Are there exams that you have to pass?
To receive authorization with Yoga Alliance as RYT-200, quizzes and exams are a required part of your curriculum. You will find quizzes sprinkled throughout after the videos to empower your learning. Quiz retakes are allowed if the first time through you do not receive a passing grade. Also expect a “take home” final exam as well as final teaching practicum via zoom. We are here to support your success. Please do not let the Yoga Alliance policy of “grading” stand in your way. We will prep you well (our promise to you), and you will all do just fine (trust in yourself).

How long will it take to complete the program?
Everyone has different needs, Soma Yoga Institute suggests following along with one of their established curricula plans to keep you on track. These are 8 weeks (approximately 25 hours per week of study and practice), 12 weeks (approximately 16 hours of study and practice per week), 16 weeks (approximately 12. 5 hours of study and practice per week), 6 months (approximately 8 hours per week of study and practice), and 8 months (approximately 6.5 hours per week of study and practice).

If flexibility is what you are looking for, Soma Yoga Institute will give you up to 8 months to complete your program and offer a 2 month extension free of charge if needed. Upon enrollment, we will help you determine the best study plan for you so that you can keep your pace and be motivated to the finish line.

Students are encouraged to attend 30 hours of live calls via Zoom. The rest of the prerecorded content can be completed at your own pace.
