The practice is not in the asana – it’s in the awareness.
Yoga has been a constant and integral part of my life for more than 20 years. In 2009, I received my YTT certification in Hatha yoga. Although Hatha informs the foundation of my practice, I consider my style non-dogmatic and inclusive of complementary movement traditions that are both intense and gentle. I may throw an animal locomotion movement into the class to build calisthenic strength and remind us to be playful, do some qigong exercises to bring awareness to the relationship between prana and breath, invite creative exploration of the somatic mind body connection through organic movement or challenge our balance, flexibility and focus by modifying classic asanas with movements inspired by modern dance or martial arts. The aim is to invite a lightness of being and joy to our movement practice and to encourage others to listen and respond to their intuition with safety and awareness. The practice is always an inquiry, an exploration of sensation, movement, and stillness. My teaching is about investigation, experimentation and play to invoke a deeper embodied sense of self that nurtures the body and mind.
A Little More About Me
I announced my vegetarianism to my cattle farming family when I was 10 years old and although I didn’t know it at the time, started on my yoga journey. Since then, I have adopted a mostly vegan diet and have become an avid cook with a green thumb and an interest in Ayurveda. I’ve studied permaculture design in Hawaii and have practiced yoga in more than 80 different countries. I consider myself a global citizen, an environmental activist and an outdoor enthusiast. On the weekends, you can find me in the mountains climbing or at the beach if there is surf.
