I was first introduced to Yoga in 2012 when I lived in Amsterdam. I took my first vinyasa class in a heated room, and it felt horrible. The next day I woke up with a terrible headache and a fever. ‘If this is Yoga, then count me out.’ I thought. Then, two years later a new Yoga studio opened its doors in my street, offering free classes in their first month. I decided to give it another shot. And I loved it. I felt connected to my body and mind, and a surprising sense of joy and peace. Whatever bad mood I was carrying around that day melted away like snow in the sun once I stepped on the mat. I started going to classes almost every day. But then life happened – I struggled with mental health issues, and I lost my connection with yoga for a while. Until a few years later, at a point in my life when I felt the lowest, I found my way back to the mat. And I knew it was a sign.
In August 2019 fate had brought me to the small island of Koh Phangan in Thailand for a 200 Hr Yoga Teacher Training, where I deepened my practice and learned to tap into my spirituality. It was a life-changing experience for me. During that month of fully immersing in Yoga and meditation, I discovered a little part in the center of my heart. A part inside me that was free from judgment, free from anger or fear, free from right or wrong. A part that instead was full of joy. Full of peace. Full of love and compassion. Full of acceptance. It was right there. And it had been there all along.
My teaching style is compassion-centered, non-judgmental and playful. I will always remind my students to listen to their bodies and to keep in mind the importance of ahimsa. I seek to inspire students to connect with their true self and increase their physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing so that they can thrive in life. My hope and wish for all of my students is that they step off the mat feeling balanced, nourished, replenished and free.
