Experience & Qualifications
Mary is a Resident Teacher at Hariharalaya Yoga & Meditation Retreat Center located in a rural village of Cambodia. She teaches daily asana, pranayama & meditation classes, leads workshops and offers private lessons to guests. She is also in charge of the yoga internship program. As a Resident Teacher, Mary aims to inspire her students both on and off the mat through her daily practice, mindful eating, Karma yoga and continuous self-study.
Mary was first introduced to yoga by her mother who maintained a daily practice in their family home throughout her childhood. She explored a variety of classes and styles of yoga before finding her niche with Vinyasa. After finishing her university degree, Mary completed her yoga teacher training in Chicago. She followed her certification with courses focused specifically on specialized teaching (i.e. pregnancies, injuries, etc.), effective sequencing, and advancements/modifications to make her teaching accessible to all types of students. Back home in the US, Mary taught private lessons and beginner level classes.
Beginning in January, Mary has been fulfilling her passion for traveling & yoga in Southeast Asia. In addition to countless classes, workshops and retreat experiences abroad, Mary spent time in an Ashram in Nepal studying the Satyananda Style of Yoga – an integral approach including Bhatki Yoga (chanting), Karma Yoga (selfless service), Shatkarma (cleansing), Asana (postures), Pranayama (breathing), Meditation techniques and everything in between!
Mary is also trained in Y12SR (Yoga for 12-Step Recovery) which utilizes the tools of yoga to sustain recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.
She continues to spread her love for yoga teaching local students and fellow travelers overseas. If there’s one thing Mary’s experience has taught her, it’s that yoga is truly accessible to anyone who is open to it!
